TCMH South Wing Begins to Come Down

Demolition of the original wing of the hospital, referred to as the South Wing is taking place.

Asbestos was removed from the wing earlier in the summer, and much of the wing was gutted–doors, fixtures, etc. removed before the walls began to come down.

The large excavator on site removed concrete around the building, trees and shrubs.  It will also be used to remove the rubble.

Breaking the South Wing away from the existing parts of the hospital that will be kept is a slow job.  Crews are taking care to be sure not to damage the existing building when removing the old portion.

Bids for the tornado safe room and new surgery department will be opened on September 10th.  Removal of the South Wing will be complete later this month so construction crews can begin the new construction.
